At some point in spiritual life, few of us need restoration as we have lapsed from the hands of the Lord. Yes, this is the major hindrance that is faced by many believers despite experiencing divine providence and miraculous deeds from the Lord. Sometimes we realize our downfall but are unable to seek God due to guilt-riddenness.
But the point to understand is that except we turn back to the Lord, our lives cannot be restored. The Bible says (Jeremiah 17:14), “Heal me, LORD, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise.” Our gracious Lord, in his abundant grace, has cleared a way through Jesus Christ to reach him despite our sinful and unrighteous life. Yes, sin and downfall in salvation is not at all acceptable in the sight of the Lord, but we should not be that guilt-ridden.
Let’s go into the scriptures…..
In the book of Jeremiah (18:1–10), the Lord metaphorically compares the work of Potter. The potter was making a vessel of clay spoiled in his hand, and he reworked it into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to do. Likewise, the Lord makes us in his own image (spiritually) through the process of salvation that we received through Christ. Yes, sometimes we go astray according to our own plans and actions, which spoils our life. At this point, our gracious God, who is not willing to leave us according to our own hearts (like a shepherd who leaves his flock of sheep in order to find the one that is lost), calls us back with open arms. (Romans 10:21) “But of Israel, he says, “All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people.”
To make us obedient and turn back to him, the Lord has to allow evil( open door due to our sin ) to experience some troubles, which makes us realise our spiritual downfall. The Lord clearly says (Jeremiah 18:6), “O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter has done?” So declares the Lord. Behold, like the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel. “ As Potter restoring or rebuilding the vessel which was spoiled, our Lord will restore us despite of our situations. Jeremiah 18:8 “and if that nation, turns from its evil, I will relent of the disaster that I intended to do to it.” So, if you turn back to the Lord from your lapsed life, then he will restore you. The lord is ready to restore you from the troubled life that was caused due to a spiritual downfall (Hosea 6:1). “Come, let us return to the LORD. He has torn us to pieces, but he will heal us; he has injured us, but he will bind up our wounds. “
How to go back to the Lord?
The best way to understand this is to go to the Lord with penitent faith. Yes, we will learn from the context of the Bible. Luke 7:36–50 (A sinful woman washes Jesus’s feet). When she came to Jesus, washing his feet and weeping for her sinful life, Because of her repentance, Jesus simply forgave her despite her sinful life. (Luke 7:50)Jesus said to the woman, “Because you believed, you are saved from your sins.” Your faith has saved you.”Go in peace. Likewise, come to Jesus despite your downfall and sinful life. He is ready to forgive your sins. If Jesus can do this to a woman who doesn’t know him before, then why can’t he do it for you who has accepted Jesus before?
The Bible clearly says (2 Corinthians 5:17): “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here.” So, you’re restored, which means you’re re-created as new. Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1). The Lord will restore everything that you have lost and satisfy your life.
Isaiah 40:31”But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
Jeremiah 29:11”For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Now check your spiritual life……
Come back to the Lord.
Repent of your sins.
You will be restored in the name of Jesus.
