Spiritual Adultery

Being a believer, we’re pretty confident that we won’t commit idolatry and adultery because it is a sin in the sight of God, according to the scriptures. Yes, it’s good in the sight of God. But what is the actual perspective of God pertaining to these aspects? Well, we’re not committing physical idolatry and adultery, but as a believer we may commit sin through spiritual adultery which brings wrath of God on us. Today we’ll see what is spiritual adultery that has become a major hindrance in the relationship with God.

God is most concerned about our relationship with him. Since he is holy and expecting the same from us.

In the Book of Hosea we’ll see the response of God towards Israelites who are indulged into idolatry. They forgot God and started to worship on their own understanding. This raged God against the Israelites. As per the call, prophet Hosea implied the view of God through his marital life and proclaimed the way of redemption from their wicked nature and consequences.
In the view of God, idolatry is equivalent to adultery because leaving God and turning to idols is rejecting God as a married woman leaves her husband and goes to another man (Jeremiah 3:20) “But like a woman unfaithful to her husband, so you, Israel, have been unfaithful to me, declares the Lord.”And (Isaiah 1:21) “See how the faithful city has become a whore.” In the midst of chaos, our gracious God gives a chance to repent and turn back to him.

Likewise, we started our spiritual life that is acceptable by God, but there may be some situations in our life that drags us out of this relationship with God. Though we say No to physical idolatry, but we often commit spiritual adultery by doing idol worship.
Spiritual adultery means Idolatry.
Idolatry is defined as loving world and desires more than God, change in priority of God, accepting false doctrines and wrong understanding, seeking man rather than God, independent from God. Sometimes the blessings that we’ve received from God make us far from God when we’re obsessed with the worldly pleasures. In the same way, false doctrines and understanding lead us far from God and let us live our life on our own terms. We are unable to acknowledge our sins that are against the Word of God, which results in facing the wrath of God in our life.

God considers Christ and church(believer) husband and wife. So, leaving Jesus or the wrong understanding of God is like leaving your husband and going to the world, which implies going to some other man.

God always expects from us right knowledge about him, priority for him as well as his presence all over the life. The Bible clearly says (Exodus 20:4)” You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God.” And (Hosea 6:10) ” For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.” So, this leads us to fall astray from the plan of God in our life. The Bible clearly says, (James 4:4)” You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore, whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.”

Now, it’s time to check and introspect for any idols in our life that lead us to commit adultery.
If you found one, repent and turn to Jesus. He is gracious, and He is the only way. Sometimes evil sow a seed of guilty after realising our iniquity and pulls us back that “how come you’ll go back to God and ask repentance even after committing this big sin?”. Don’t fall for his over smartness because no sin is beyond Christ’s forgiveness and no one is beyond redemption (Ephesians 1:7)”In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.

Oh, reader! Repent on your adultery and save yourself.
