In our life we’re used to facing many tough situations and being a believer we’re well aware of God’s help. During that tough time we all had experience with the miraculous deeds of God which had rescued and redeemed us. Similarly, a person named Job in the Bible had faced sorrowful situations in his life and was rescued as well as blessed by God.
But, there is a difference between Job and others pertaining to response during the tough time.
Now, we have to understand the purpose of God towards that kind of tough situations in our life. At the same time, God is much concerned about the response we give during that situation. Our response could make or break our relationship with God.
Through the Book of Job, God is willing to teach us a few main aspects which help us to have more and strong relationship with God.
1) God’s greatness( EL-OHIM)
2) How we should respond to our problems
3) How we should respond as an observer?
Let’s see how Job in the Bible responded to his tough situations….
When Job was struck with the bitter things, he started introspection towards iniquities and asking God for the answer. Yes, we can question God, but we should not be doubtful about his existence. He is blameless and righteous (Job 1: 1) but still he’s not blaming God for this situation instead of that he’s accepting God’s plan and it’s clearly mentioned over that he did not commit sin for that situation (Job 1:20 & 2:10). When we face hard times, initially we should check ourselves whether we have committed any sin that led to punishment or a testing of faith. We don’t know God’s plan behind that, so wait patiently for his response. In the Bible (2 Samuel 12:14-22), king David has committed a sin which raged God, which resulted in punishment. Prophet Nathan clearly said the word of God that David’s son is going to die, but here we should see the perspective of David towards the graciousness of God. Though he is aware of God’s decision, he is still waiting patiently and pleading for help.
So, we should be more patient and plead God for his response and help. Likewise, we should accept the situation and wait patiently for his help. Here, I would like to emphasize that hope and faith matters a lot.
Being a believer, whenever we face these situations, we usually take it as a testing time of God thinking that we’re blameless and righteous in the sight of God. We lead our life during that time with just prayers for help and ask for perseverance in faith, but we forget to check ourselves for iniquities in our life. Though Job is a righteous person, he used to offer burnt sacrifices to God for the probability of sin. This made him blameless in the sight of God. So, please do not assume that we’re righteous all the time and forget to check our sinful life. The Bible clearly says (Galatians 6:7) “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked”. Please do not assume with your own understanding and miss the plan of God. Because in both the scenarios ( punishment and testing) God will allow tribulation in our life.
Well, what if a person is actually righteous and blameless in the sight of God…..
The immediate question that arises in our mind is: Why should God test his righteous people?
The simple answer would be ….
After building a ship, an engineer said that the ship was capable of storms and tides, and nothing can break it. Well, we have to appreciate the design and perfection of the crew. But, the point is we will get to know the capability of that ship unless and until it travels in the ocean, and we can’t accept that fact by keeping that ship in the dockyard.
Similarly, our faith and hope will be validated when we face these tribulations. The main point is God knows the response of Job and his future aspects and the same with us.
As an Observer when someone is suffering with hard time….
Do not judge his relationship with God and do not estimate his righteousness and spirituality. The main thing is we don’t know the purpose behind that. So, we should not conclude the reason for their hard times. Please do not say unnecessary things which may lead us to sin. This is what happened with the three friends of Job in the Bible, and their behaviour raged the wrath of God(Job 42:7).
El Ohim
The book of Job proclaims the creation of great things by God. When we see the universe, everything is well-designed right from the point of matter to the laws of science and maths. He is an intellectual designer. No one can comprehend his works completely because he’s a great God. The Bible(Isaiah 55:8) clearly says that” for my thoughts are not your thoughts, or are your ways my ways”. So, all we have to do is cry at his feet at the time of trouble. He is gracious and incline his ears when we pray(Psalm 46:1).“God is our refuge and strength, very present help in trouble.”
Please check your life for any iniquities and repent on your sins. We have a gracious and great God who has a plan for us. Yes, we’re chosen and blessed to serve him.
The Bible clearly says, ” Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage”.
Now the question is ……
Are you blameless in the sight of God?
Are you seeking God in the time of trouble?
