Insight – Reign of Kings

God appointed Prophet Samuel as his spokesman (1 Samuel -3).During that time the Israelites asked for a king to rule over them. The saddest part faced by God is his people rejecting his authority over them and asking a man to rule. Despite experiencing wonders and miraculous deeds, Israelites rejected God’s rule and God granted their willful desire and requirement for a kingship. We clearly understand the heart of God towards his chosen people and the way he brought them out of exile and wilderness (Exodus 19: 4) and love to give a promise land as he promised to Abraham. All this is happening to people who do not deserve anything except God’s promise. Before giving King to the Israelites, God clearly informed the consequences of the Kingdom, and people agreed with that.

As said, God appointed Saul as a king for the Israelites. Initially, Saul was good and following God’s word, but later he went astray. God rejected him as a King because of his behavior of pleasing man and following his own thoughts. His impatience (1 Samuel 13: 11) in the context of burnt offering and disobedience( 1 Samuel 15:9) to God’s word pertaining to the destruction of enemies.

Here, we should acknowledge God’s love. Yes, God knows the heart of man right from the point of creation and is well aware of the person who will be on the throne and will lead them astray at some point. But his love has been demonstrated in giving free will to his people. God never forces anyone to do according to his plan if they are not willing. Freedom is not about doing anything we can but rejecting the bad with our wisdom, and God expects this from us, which can be possible with his wisdom. Though the kingship is not good in the sight of God, but he granted it according to the will of the Israelites. At the same time, God will keep us informed about the repercussions of going against his plan. We often go astray and face difficulties, and at that point we blame God for allowing those situations. God will never put us in a hard situation without any reason, and often we make our life hard by going against his will. So, God allows us into a hard situation according to our plans and free will. In the same way, Israelites faced bitter consequences because of a few kings who led them to idols and sexual immorality and adultery.

Likewise, we try to please God according to our assumptions, but the perspective of God in pleasing him is different (1 Samuel 15:22) there is nothing better than obeying him. The Bible clearly says that the foundation of sin is disobedience to his words (1 John 3:4)” sin is lawlessness”. We can see a contrast between Samuel and Saul’s life. Samuel humbled himself as a servant before God and accepted his words (1 Samuel 3)as well as he is obedient to his master, Priest Eli. The Bible says that Samuel is good in the sight of God and man, whereas Saul was good only in the sight of man. The Bible guiding us towards obedience (John 14:23) and patience (Romans 8:25).

Let’s reflect this in our life, God has already revealed the fulfillment of his promise and let the gospel be shared throughout the world. He made us know about the consequences of rejecting Christ as well as the reward of accepting Christ (Mathew chapter 13 & 25). God revealed the way to reach him and have an eternity in his presence. Yes, through JESUS we can reach Father and no other means (John 14:6).Being a believer; we try many other means to please God rather than accepting Christ and obeying his words. At the same time, God has given a free will to accept or to reject Christ, but he never forces anyone to do according to his will.

In the event of the Garden of Eden, a choice made by Adam & Eve led the entire human race to sin, and we missed the presence of God. But, God is not done with us. He sent his only son to rebuild the same relationship, and he redeemed us from slavery of sin by his precious blood.

Now the question is……

What’s your Choice?    Accepting Christ or Rejecting Christ

Are you obeying God?
